Sylvester D5: Hendrickx wins today, Michiels and Omová overall
Yannick Michiels took the overall victory in the sylvester 5-days, winning 3 stages. The Hendrickx brothers took the other two stages. Today in Ravels, it was Pieter Hendrickx who won the fifth stage. The usually fast runnable forest was slower than usual, recent woodworks and some flooded areas made sure top speeds for most runners were slow. Only two runners seemed not affected: Michiels and Hendrickx. Their pace was unmatched, with number 3 Thomas van der Kleij more than 5 minutes behind. Van der Kleij lost time already during the second leg. He, like quite a few other runners, had problems finding the control in the green forest. With Hendrickx and Michiels taking the first two places overall thanks to their performance today, van der Kleij was in the more interesting fight for the third place with your reporter. Both teammates driving together to the competition today, the result would decide who had to walk home...
Van der Kleij was the fastest one in the forest today. He had an advantage of 2 minutes to your reporter, also beaten by D. Franssen, K. Peeters and T. Hendrickx today. Van der Kleij had already started the party after being the fastest for three days out of five, but the final results came as a bit of a shock. Hendrickx ran that fast that today's score was not good enough to close the gap. In the end, your reporter had just one point left to take the third place. The fifth and sixth places were taken by Hendrickx and Peeters. Franssen, Zwiker, Schulte-Zurhausen and ... completed the top ten.
Bloemen (Junior class winner) and Michiels.
The fight in the women's class was once again interesting. Before the race, Greet Oeyen had a small advantage to Emily Kemp and Michaela Omová. Kemp and Oeyen almost matched each other during the race. They were no match for Omová however. Leaving less than 900 points to both, she easily won the overall ranking.
