relay in south of Belgium
6th of may there will be a 6-man relay in the south of Belgium. Organised by RCAE and FRSO. This relay is in the same time the Interclubs FRSO Champs. This year, it's a new formula, inspired by the French Club Champs : a relay of 6 runners, with at least two women, one runner under 16, one runner above 40 and one above 50.
Of course these criterias can be cumulated. For example, a good team should be 1 D16 + 1 D50 + 1 H40 + 3 elite runners. It's organised on the nice map of Poix Saint Hubert, made by professionnal French mappers (last used for Interland).

We expect that in the following years a national club championship will be born as a new big relay championship with similar rules as these.

Just add that the idea is to re-create as in France (or in Nordic countries) a club spirit and a goal for the club.
My club will enrol three teams and it becomes the main goal for our members. Already a lot of discussions how to make the best teams and how to increase the number for next years.
For e.g. my belgian club HOC is really small right now but 25 years ago it was probably one of the best (if not the best). Now the club decided to open an orienteering school on some new maps near Couvin (my parent´s place) with an orienteering session every week on Thursday. It will be base in my athletic club environment also in Couvin. Therefore young could find others training sessions on the week in the same structure.
Maybe we´ll have 5 teams next years with a lot of young runners. We´ll see...

Ziet er een leuke aflossing uit maar noteer dat op diezelfde 6 mei een unieke middle-distance georganiseerd wordt door HAMOK op de kaart Balendijk te Lommel.
Er zijn zes verschillende typische middle distance omlopen en dit in een uitdagend terrein. De kaart Balendijk bestaat uit het Noordelijk deel van de kaart Kattenbos met véél klein reliëf, een oude zandgroeve, duinen en heidegebied.De aankomstzone bevindt zich op een schooldomein waar een pittig en zenuwachtig einde gelegd werd. Op deze kaart vond enkele jaren terug het BK korte afstand plaats. Toen nog gelopen met schifting en finale.
Een unieke kans om nog eens een "echte" middle-distance te lopen.

jammer dat de kalender 2 mooie initiatieven aanbiedt deze keer.
voor een eliteloper lijken me beide keuzes erg interessant en ook relevant voor training.
In een klein landje als Belgie zo veel keuzes, wat een luxe :)
Om de aflossing echt te laten uitgroeien tot een waardig alternatief zal het formaat toch eens 'uitgetest' moeten worden door VVO ook.
