Gp Melis 2013: Entries have been opened
The entries to the second edition of the Gp Melis (10th of november in Mol) have been opened.
This year the Gp Melis event will include 2 mass start races with forking in a nice Flemish terrain. A part of the map has never been used before. At GP Melis we can expect exciting courses with fine orienteering, demanding route choices and fast running in a forest area. We hope that it is going to be a nice clash between the best juniors, elite runners and veterans.
During the first race, the 6 best elites and the 3 best in all the other categories can win 30 seconds bonustime. These runners will start ahead of the others in the final race. But 30 seconds bonus in the second mass start is not much in this Belgian terrain. We can expect an exciting fight between the leaders and the chasing group.
The entries have been opened only a few hours ago, but already some big names have entered. Local stars Michael Van Baelen and Desmond Franssen are for sure guys who can fight for the victory. Also the fast German, Alexander Lubina (reached the A-finals at WOC 2013) will come to Belgium for nothing less then a spot on the palmares of the Gp Melis.
The big question is that if defending champion Yannick Michiels will be present or not. On facebook he says maybe, but the competition is close to the cross country season.
Interesting news for foreign orienteers: you also have the opportunity to run other regional competitions on friday, saturday and monday. In Brussels '3 Jours de la Forêt de Soignes' will be organised (9-11/11). This race is perfect to get used to the Belgian terrain and be prepared for the famous GP Melis. The competition on friday 08/11 in Kelchterhoef is a nice warming up race to begin the 4-days full of competitions.
Here you can enter for the GP MELIS and find more information about it. PS: If you enter first you are on the first startrow, if you enter last you are on the last startrow!
