Hendrickx and Oeyen win last WRE of the year

In the strongest field of competitors seen in Belgium the last few years, Pieter Hendrickx(**) was the fastest today in Koersel, 't Fonteintje. He was better than international orienteering stars, such as Jörgen Wickholm(***), Fabien Pasquasy(***) and Yury Tambasov(***). They didn't make it for the second place either, with junior Wouter Leeuws(*) running a great race and finishing second, just half a minute slower than Hendrickx. Wickholm finished in third spot, 1 minute behind, with Pasquasy fourth, half a minute down on Wickholm.

Pasquasy made a one minute mistake at control 3, but even without that mistake he would have needed a fantastic race to beat Hendrickx.

Hendrickx commented: "Joa, ik haalde half koers Ken Peeters(*) in en joa, ik liep wel sneller, maar joa, als ik er over kwam, ging ik de mist in." Translation for those who don't speak Arendonks: "I caught up with Ken Peeters around halfway, I tried to run away from him, but couldn't get away due to mistakesone mistake, but having him nearby motivated me to keep a fast pace."

Tomorrow, we won't see Pasquasy or Leeuws in the Zwarte Bergen, but we will see T. van der Kleij(Hors Catégorie), back from a training camp in Lanzarote.

In the women's class Greet Oeyen(***) was the strongest today. She had a 2 minute gap to Sabrina Meriheinä(**), with Miek Fabré(***) a further two minutes behind in third position. It will be an interesting week and De Laatste Post will keep you updated on the developments.

The sylvester five days are also the favourite comeback days for many runners. We have big names such as Dennis Ducro, Kim Wallaert, Wim Peers, Elien Melis and even former Ham O.K. club champion Maarten Hoekx in the forest tomorrow in De Zwarte Bergen,Luyksgestel, The Netherlands.
