Overview results at the World Cup O-Ringen

Day 1: Long Distance
None of the Belgians managed to qualify for the A-final for the next day as only Etienne van Gasse had a time in the results table.
Greet and Fabien both hit their knee against a rock and had to retire during the race and were only able to race the next days after a long warmup.

Day 2: Middle
All Belgians in the B-final. A top 5 placing in this race would give them a ticket to the A final the next days. Greet Oeyen came closest to this position but still missed out with 1.42.

Day 3: Sprint
All Belgians again in the B-final in this sprint race.

World Cup Ranking
Only top 40 placings give World Cup points in the current scoring system, so unfortunately none of the Belgians has managed to earn any points in any of their World Cup races.

Criticism on World Cup format

In the meantime, some people show their disappointment in the current format of the World Cup as there will be some discussions about the new format at WOC in Ukraine.
One interesting opinion from one of the contributors on the nopesport forum :

"The current series fails in one of its stated aims to encourage world wide development of the sport. It is currently heavily focused on Europe/Scandinavia and on well resourced orienteering nations".

It will be interesting to see how IOF will evaluate this new format!

World Cup programma

Dit Zweedse luik van de World Cup bestond uit 3 wedstrijden:

23/7 Long Distance: Massastart met alle deelnemers
24/7 Middle Distance: A en B finales, 50 deelnemers in de A finale: de top 40 van de Long Distance massastart + enkele toevoegingen (op basis van resultaten vorige World Cup rondes + World Cup Ranking)
25/7 Sprint : A en B finales, 50 deelnemers in de A finale: de top 40 van de Middle Distance + enkele toevoegingen (top 5 B-finale Middle Distance + World Cup Ranking)

Dag 1:Long Distance

Geen enkele van de Belgen kon zich kwalificeren.
Enkel Etienne stond vermeld met een tijd in de uitslag.
Greet en Fabien stootten hun knie tijdens de wedstrijd en moesten opgeven.

Results M21 E, W21E

Door deze mindere prestaties op de eerste dag werden de Belgen gedwongen de B-finale te lopen op de Middle, dag 2.

Een top 5 plaats in deze wedstrijd zou weer een ticket voor de A-finale in de Sprint dag 3 opleveren.
Greet Oeyen kwam het dichtste bij deze top 5 met een 7e stek maar had hiervoor toch 1:42 sneller moeten lopen.

Dag 3 betekende dus ook weer de B-finale voor al de Belgen...

World Cup Ranking

Het huidige puntensysteem, omschreven in de World Cup Rules, geeft enkel punten tot aan de top 40 , dit heeft dus als gevolg dat niemand van de Belgen momenteel al punten bij elkaar heeft kunnen sprokkelen op de World Cup Ranking.

Ik heb ondertussen ook gelezen op enkele fora dat bepaalde naties niet tevreden zouden zijn met het huidige format van de World Cup en op het WOC in Ukraine zou er hierover gediscussierd worden.

Een bepaalde post op het nopesport forum gaf volgende indruk over de huidige World Cup:

"The current series fails in one of its stated aims to encourage world wide development of the sport. It is currently heavily focused on Europe/Scandinavia and on well resourced orienteering nations".

Het wordt zeker interessant om volgen hoe IOF dit format zal evalueren en welke beslissingen er genomen zullen worden.
