WRE's in Belgium

Until now there is only one organisation ready to make a World Ranking Event.
This is the the "Match Interland EOC-FRSO-NOLB-VVO-WTB" on the 18th of march 2007.
Normally the Belgian Championships Long Distance on the 9th of september will also be a WRE. But there are some things to do by the organiser BORASCA.

If the rules for the World Cup stay the same as they are now this means a disaster for Belgium. We will not be able to send more than 1 atlete. Other countries will certainly do efforts to get a better rank. Of course the best way to get a higher rank is to organise WRE's in your own country since the best 20 runners are taken into account.

The belgian commission decided to organise trips to WRE's instead of doing a training week for the national team. Of course there will not be more than 10 runners who will be prepared to go. It's a good initiatif but it will probably not be enough.

Belgium is allowed to organise 4 WRE's, why don't we do so?? One reason is that a WRE costs 200 euro for the organiser. ABSO-BVOS only has money to organise 2 WRE's. If this is the only reason it would be very sad. Because in this way IOF favors the rich countries.

These 400 euro for 2 extra events shouldn't be such a problem for Belgium. Many ways to collect this money. But now we know why there are NO WRE's in Russia or Ukraine. And now we know why these countries are below there standards in this ranking.

So what we as athletes suggest is to make all 3 belgian Championships a WRE. How the money for these events will be collected can be discussed. Sponsoring? Clubs? Competitors?
Belgium will also be able to attract more international orienteers if we have these WRE's.

I don't know how to earn money... but I definitely think that we must have more WRE in Belgium. It's a question of survival of our sport (at least of our sport at competition level) : young orienteers need elite runners to be motivated, we need world-class events to be motivated. Am I right ?

    deadline is blijkbaar 30 September!

    GOOD NEWS

This is hopefully a good example for FRSO. Belgian Championship sprint would be perfect for WRE. No doubt that there will be enough runners.
Hopefully these messages reach the right person to take a decision quickly at the level of VVO and his clubs as well as FRSO and clubs. So, MAYBE we will have 4 WRE's in Belgium next year.

Besides that the signal of IOF is clear. They want the WRE's to be more important. And they succeed in that. Abso-Bvos already indicated by there decision (participation of WRE's instead of training camps) that, WE, elite runners, are getting more interested in WRE's in other countries. On the other hand there probably will be more interest of other countries in the WRE's in Belgium. That's a good thing as well.

But still we stay in 23th place, so only 1 athlete who can go to world cup events. How are we going to do a selection for that ;-). Maybe we should ask IOF.

as described in the article there are 4 wre's possible in belgium for next year.

match VVO-FRSO-... is an event as described in IOF-rules:

"Regional Championships which rotate on an annual basis between two or more Federations (e.g. Nordic Championships) can be WREs in addition to the host Federation's normal allocation of three WREs "

I see that the opinion of us, elite runners has a positif influence already at the site of VVO and probably there can be taken a decision quickly. A proposal has been made to the clubs.

Hopefully our french speaking friends can obtain the same at FRSO-site.
