Today one of the only mountainbike orienteering events in Belgium took place in Kessel-Lo. MTB-O is not so popular in Belgium, mainly because there are lots of orienteering events and even many more mountainbike tours. On sundays it's hard to drive to the orienteering event without seeing markers for some mountainbike tour. So most potential people are already busy doing something else. Which was also the case today, with a WRE and the Match tomorrow, a lot of people already went to the training in Chiny, so there were not that many participants.
Today's map was not what you might expect of orienteering in Flanders, no sand dunes, but rather hills like in the Flemish cycling races (Ronde van Vlaanderen...), though steeper and not as long. We were lucky that there was no rain last week, because most paths were in perfect conditions for a mountainbike event, with only one uphill on the whole map being too muddy to stay on your bike.
The A race was won by Sam Deferm (Borasca), who had an advantage of 1min35 on Dirk Deijgers (hamok). The distant third was Guido Timmers (hamok), 10mins behind. The B race was won by Peter vande Loock and the C race by Luc Desmet.
